SCENARIOS

01. Arrival

You have been sitting and staring at the sign above you for some time now, lost in a blur of swirling questions that seems to start with how you ended up there; in a place (and time, maybe) that you know you weren't an hour earlier. Or maybe you're an old hand at this by now and you've figured out that this is simply another stop that the multiverse bus has made. So why not get off and look around a little?

At any rate, the sign points you towards the direction of a place called "Gazin", which looks like a decent-sized town from where you stand. There has to be someone who can explain.

02. Around Town

So, you've settled in. Well, mostly. At least you know where things are without taking too many wrong turns and ending up in the less desirable areas of town. But now you can go about your day. Visit the market, check out the local shops or have a drink with a new friend at one of several inns.

03. Exploring

You've heard people talk about some pretty interesting places and now you're itching to get out and find them. Be careful though, there are creatures and monsters out there that will be pretty interested in meeting you and may wish to have you for its next meal. Better take someone along. And maybe some weapons, too. Make sure one is made of silver.

04. Monsters

So, you managed to find that location you were looking for. Good for you! Only.. it seems you've also found one of the native creatures to the area and you now face to face with it. Um. Good luck! We'll see you when you get back!

05. Celebration

It won't take long for you to figure out that people of Gazin are, all in all, pretty happy people. It shows, too, when a seemingly quiet evening suddenly bursts into a random, impromptu party to celebrate whatever good fortune has touched a person. Name Days, good harvests, betrothals, weddings, or just life in general.

Sing, dance, drink and be happy, too!

He paused at that. He didn't recall actually meeting Xiao Xingchen in life. He hadn't had the pleasure. Only with his death had been anywhere close to him. Perhaps his reputation proceeded him somehow.

Of course, he was blind so how was he to know...

"Yes. Gusu Lan's Lan WangJi."

"More and more of the gentry clans arrive in this world."

He smiles at the confirmation.

"It's been some time since you assisted me. Perhaps I can return the favor here. Has Wei-gongzi accompanied you as well? He seemed quite pleased to be your companion."

"I have met quite a few since I have arrived."

The comment of having assisted him before. He knew that he had in fact, not assisted him before. But he approached it as carefully as he could.

"Yes, Wei Ying is here. It... has been a while since I assisted you?"

Trying to search for more information without being rude.

"It's been many years."

Xiao Xingchen confirms quietly. And Lan Wangji's answer tells him something as well, or at least he thinks it does. Even without trying to involve himself in news of the sects, whispers of the Yiling Patriarch ran wild. News of his death was much the same.

He wasn't around to hear news of his return.

"Have you had any difficulties here?"

Many years. That still didn’t tell him anything about what the assistance had been but it did tell him that something may have been different between his world and their world. His memory was not as bad as WuXian’s; he would have remembered meeting Daozhang. He had heard about him plenty, but that was the extent of it.

Still, this might take longer to sort out and not in a public location in the middle of the streets. Over a pot of tea would have been better.

“I have not. Wei Ying arrived with an injury, but he is recovering. I found him in time.”

"It's not serious, I hope."

I found him in time... Those words make it sound serious. Xingchen frowns, even more concerned than usual because of his connection to him, the master that he and wei wuxian's mother shared.

"Oh, Sect Leader Cheng is here. He's met with a doctor from our world. Should we call on her?"

"Could have been. No longer is."

That's really all that needed to be said. He wasn't sure how much detail WuXian wanted going around that he had been stabbed by Jin Ling. It didn't seem that important to tell people unless they really needed to know.

"It might be good to have her check him."

It's enough. Just knowing that he's not in mortal danger is enough to make Xiao Xingchen relax. If Lan Wangji says it, it must be true.

"It could not hurt. He and I have made arrangements to go night-hunting together. You're welcome to join us, young master Lan. There seems to be a lot to learn about the creatures here."

They're not the same as the ghosts and creatures from their world, but as long as they pose a threat, he feels compelled to hunt them.

"I know someone who can stay with him, if he's unable to accompany us for the time being."

WangJi would not lie, especially knowing that Xiao Xingchen is essentially WuXian's uncle by his mother sharing the same teacher as him. If he had been in serious condition, he wouldn't necessarily have been meandering around. He also would have told him so in case Xiao Xingchen wanted to visit with him and offer support.

"I would. I am curious to see what is here that we need to be aware of."

Not only for the sake of those here but also in the future if more should arrive. He did not wish for junior disciples to show up here and not know what to be aware of.

"Who do you have in mind?"

Someone from the inn was going to an eye on him while he was gone, but still he could find out.

Xiao Xingchen nods at that. It's sound reasoning, and he'll be able to learn more as well with sighted companions.

"A friend." Though it's still a little strange to call him that. It was a chance meeting, and Xingchen had expected them to go their separate ways long ago, but...here they are. "He accompanied me even before we arrived here, and helped look out for a young blind girl."

So he has faith in his abilities as a caretaker. It's all the truth as far as xiao xingchen knows.

A friend... who had accompanied him even before here. He didn't need much more than that to know that this was Xue Yang. While he might have already spoken with him when he had gone out not too long ago and there was perhaps an uneasy truce, WangJi didn't trust him.

And he certainly didn't trust him where WuXian's health was concerned. He wasn't going to invite that man into space he was sharing with WuXian. Even if nothing happened then, it was inviting him to pay them a visit again.

"I will keep that in mind. You have known him long, this friend?"

"For some time, yes."

He tilts his head thoughtfully. It's hard to pinpoint the exact length of said time. Xingchen barely gave thought to such things even when he still had his sight. But, his best guess...

"It's been a couple of years since our first encounter. I wonder if we'll all spend as much time here together."

He smiles lightly with the words. It doesn't look like he'd mind it.

"I see. Then you must know him well."

He had a feeling that he was missing a crucial piece of information about who his compatriot was, but he wanted to speak to WuXian about the course of action to take. All good sense said they should tell him, but he also shouldn't be alone after finding out in case the news was hard to swallow... and WangJi was not good at being comforting.

"Perhaps. So there does not seem to be a way home."

He was sure WuXian would like time to get to know Xiao Xingchen.

Does he? Xingchen thinks he knows him well - he knows that he can be helpful when he wants to be. And playful, always with his games and the funny things that he says. Xingchen knows that there is something fearless about him, and knows that he likes sweets. He prefers meat to vegetables but will eat the latter without too much complaint when it's all they have.

Yes, he surely knows him well.

He shakes his head at the mention of a way home.

"It's likely that it's as mysterious as our arrival was. But location has never mattered to me. I'm sure there are people here in need of help."

To be fair, that was more than WangJi knew about Xue Yang. But he also knew what the other was hiding from Xiao Xingchen simply because he couldn't see otherwise. And it is that one secret that keeps so much more hidden.

Still, WangJi won't divulge it just yet.

"Quite likely. If it was obvious, we would have left by now. I'm sure there are given what I heard about what is beyond the village."

"Oh?"

Xingchen tilts his head at that, more concern than curiosity in his voice.

"What have you heard, if I might ask?"

It could be that he hs information that is different.

"I've heard that there are some very large, very dangerous creatures similar to snakes. There are also others nearby that may look dangerous, but won't attack unless they are provoked."

He was curious to see if this was true. He had no intention of fighting every creature he saw. If it proved to be not dangerous, he wouldn't bother it.
