SCENARIOS

01. Settling In
It's been a couple of days since you have arrived and once the fatigue from that multiversal travel has been fixed there is a town that you should probably get acquainted with. At least well enough that you don't get lost every time you venture away from the inn where you are likely staying for the time being.

Down the narrow streets to the south where most newcomers first enter Gazin, the tradespeople have set up their shops. Armourers, blacksmiths, bowyers and carpenters can all be found there, as well a few shady types who cannot pass up the advantage of ripping off an unsuspecting person.

Heading east, one can find the two apothecary shops, a bakery, a herbarium, seamstress and shoemaker. There is also a medical clinic set up and is equipped to care for anything up to moderate injuries.

The northern part of town is the district that most people tend to avoid. It's smelly and dark and trouble lurks in every corner. It's hard not to get an uneasiness that feels like someone is watching you. If asked, most civilians will explain why it is called The Devil's Mouth.

In the west district, it is bright and cheerful and generally happy. Music and celebration seem to happen twice daily, every day of the week with Saturday being the loudest. During that day, the marketplace comes to life with vendors selling their fresh food or wares. In the evening, there's typically a firework show and maybe a drunken fistfight or two that ends with more drinking and some laughter. Sometimes, but not often, trouble from the northern district trickles into the west. Those slow festivities but not for long.

02. Exploring
You have heard people talk about the places beyond Gazin and now you find yourself itching to get out and see them. Be it Vasari Forest or Roselake, you and your trusty legs (or horse) plan to be gone for a week or more. One must always be cautious of the dangers while travelling, however. Bandits and rogue soldiers often cannot pass up the chance to take what isn't theirs. There are also creatures and monsters hiding in wait to curiously check you out or worse, hunt you for their next human-shaped meal.

But, that's all part of the adventure! Take someone along with you and maybe some weapons, too. Make sure one is made of silver.

03. Quest
The Druid known as Bhalris has contracted you to head into the Oren Mountains to find and pass a message along to the dwarf known as Brazmas Steelbelly. What Bhalris doesn't exactly explain is where Brazmas can be found, only giving approximate directions to a certain landmark where a series of clues will be revealed that start an interesting, though perhaps frustrating adventure.

Pay attention to the white raven and other animals along the way. They may be there to help with your journey. How do you tell them apart from the other wildlife that may or may not be dangerous? You can't.

Good luck!

04. Celebration
Impromptu parties are quite the norm in Gazin and it doesn't matter what the occasion is or who it is for. There's music, plenty of drink, dancing and good times to be had.

Let loose and have some fun!

05. Wild Card!

Is there any other way to travel? [Well, there were carts and boats, but she only had eyes for the horses. There was a black stallion with dark eyes, close enough to Shadowmere to make her heart ache a bit. She brushed at his neck, scratching where he guided her, showing her his itches.

He was gentle enough, both horse and man. Handsome as well, though she would be hard pressed to choose between them.]

It would be better than sitting still in this town. Sounds like a fair exchange.

[She doesn't mind caring for the horses if it meant she could ride again. She was starting to go a bit stir crazy after traveling so much.]

What of you?

All the other ways disappoint, surely.

[ Ned watches the woman with the horse she begins to woo. It is clear that she knows her way around the beasts. His lips curve, observing the stallion's long eyelashes begin to flutter as she finds the right spots to scratch. ]

Perish the thought of sitting still and waiting for things to happen. There is much to see in this world beyond this town. And if coin can be made along the way, so much the better.

I have been a knight for several years. Riding is as common as breathing.

[ He gives her a slight bow. ]

Sir Ned Stark of Winterfell.

Carts and carriages are too bumpy and boats are slow. A horse that understands you, that is quick and has good endurance, that is the best way to travel.

[She is already losing her heart to this stallion, pressing her forehead to his nose, basking in the stable smell and the musk of the horse. He was calm, responding warmly to her as she continued to scratch him.]

I have seen a good share of the woods, but beyond them, I haven't seen yet. I would like to ride out further into the plains and see how far that horizon stretches.

[She smiled, but didn't bother to curtsy.]

[ Ned smiles. ]

A fine plan. I think he's already charmed.

[ She has quite the touch with horses. And seems equally charmed in turn by the handsome black stallion. ]

If you two have reached an understanding...would you like some company in your travels, Lady Juliel?

[ She hadn't introduced herself as such, but Ned is a polite lad, and speaks with the hint of wry humor in his voice and his grey eyes that suggests he might be amusing company himself. ]

It might require sleeping out in the woods, though. Are you sure you could endure such rough conditions, fair lady?

Just him?

[Don't think she hasn't noticed that he's invited himself and seems somewhat intrigued by her.]

Of course. He is fine company, but I should like someone to talk to.

[She understands why he calls her "lady". It's not exactly wrong, given her upbringing and background, but it's still strange to hear that address again.]

I think that I can endure such conditions.

[Endure and thrive.]

Can you keep up with me?

[ A broader laugh. She is so bold. He likes it. ]

Just how many stallions do you want at your beck and call, my lady?

[ Ned's grey eyes meet her own. He is only relatively unattached - he has love and duty pulling him asunder back home - but here...here he would like someone to talk to, yes. Someone pretty, relatively unattached as he is; someone who might understand him.

He grins at her. ]

Surely. At least, we will test this lad's endurance on a trip, what say you?

[ Ned turns to the stable where a placard names the stallion within Pantheon, a beautiful grey dun with neck and legs for days. He opens the door and unties him, leads him out to where the tackle and gear are kept. ]

Beware, lest we leave you far behind, fair maiden.

I have a fairly good stables, but only one stallion that I truly love.

[He was stronger, faster and more resilient than the farm horses her steward had collected. They would be well enough for the children when they were learning to ride, but for her, she needed a horse that could manage riding over mountains.

She swung up into the saddle, urging the horse to circle the yard for a moment, testing his speed. She made a fair sight with her long hair billowing out behind her.]

I think he might be able to manage well. I saw some mountains further ahead. Shall we try there first?

[She had to laugh.]

That sounds like a challenge to me. What say you to a wager?
